Meet JaVon
I believe in the power of storytelling to create a more kind, equitable, communal, and joyful world. It is my mission to create and champion narratives that contribute to materializing this vision.
Growing up as the child of a single mother in the military, my world has always been expansive and colorful! I've lived among people from all over the world, with various socioeconomic backgrounds, and in a number of communities in the United States and abroad. My environments helped shape my appreciation for intersectional difference and my ability to find commonalities in human experiences.
By focusing on the stories of people with marginalized identities, my work seeks to correct historical, and ongoing, dehumanizing narratives of people like me and the communities I grew up in.

I am a narrative artist seeking to bridge the personal with the universal. Emotionally honest storytelling is the connective tissue for everything I do. My work aims to help people see themselves more clearly and connect with the personhood of their neighbors.
In the visual arts, I use expressive color, bold contrast, graphic pattern and texture to communicate the complexities embedded in the story of the people and places represented in each image. My mixed media work incorporates acrylic paint, textiles, pastel and cut paper.
In the literary arts, I explore connection through reflections of community, humor, and intimacy. In my multimedia works, I develop immersive experiences that allow people to rest their cognitions and feel at ease in the spaces I've created.
As a creative consultant, I support storytellers with crafting clear and compelling narratives to share with the world.
