Dogwood Delight
"Dogwood Delight" is community-informed traffic calming pavement artwork created in collaboration with public artist Graham Coreill-Allen of Graham Projects. The design draws inspiration from the flowering dogwood, a tree native to Baltimore, and pays homage to the history of the flower shops that have been community staples on this corner: Bonaparte's Florist Shop and Fleurs D'Ave. The bright colors and wavy lines, representing leaf veins, are inspired by African wax print fabric.
This project is located at North Ave. and McCulloh St. in Baltimore, MD. It was funded through the West North Avenue Development Authority and completed in 2025.
Compass Crossing
"Compass Crossing" was developed for the Eastport neighborhood in Annapolis, MD in collaboration with Graham Coreil-Allen of Graham Projects. The street mural pays tribute to the neighborhood’s history as a sailing and farming town, featuring an immersive central compass framed by colorful traffic calming bump outs at President and Madison Streets. An abstract orange sun and wavy bands of blue and aqua evoke the shore, earth, and sky of Eastport, an historic waterfront community. Inspired by the radiant geometries of residents’ drawings, Compass Crossing inscribes this gateway intersection as a centerpoint of the neighborhood. The compass’ eight points aim at purple letters spelling out “EASTPORT”, with the “E” aligned Due East.
Rooted in Our Values
The Rooted in Our Values pavement art design for Frederick Elementary School is inspired by plant root systems completed in collaboration with Graham Coreil-Allen of Graham Projects. In nature, roots keep the plant upright as well as bring in nutrients from the surrounding soil to allow continual growth. The pavement murals’ dynamic lines of orange, purple, blue, green, and yellow represent the energy of the students, faculty, and staff creating new pathways for themselves and their community. Layered on these foundational roots, the school's official Adinkra symbols represent the values of wisdom, leadership, community, and creativity. Combined, the colorful, abstract roots and icons provide the students, faculty, and staff of Frederick Elementary School with the artistic inspiration to remain grounded and work together to create a better future.
This design is placed at what the school calls the “Breakfast Entrance.” It is visible from the main road and is where the children gather at the beginning of the school day and exit after school. I was inspired to make it feel fun and lively, so we used organic lines and laid out the symbols to facilitate opportunities for playful movement.
This is the second mural I co-designed for Rooted in Our Values at Frederick Elementary. This design is placed at the administrative entrance of the building. We wanted to communicate a more serious tone, so we utilized straight, sharp lines and made the school crest a prominent component of the composition.
